Our Family

Our family, some photos, old and new.

And our Family

Hello, our names are Ian and Zoe and we live in Farnham.  We have  been in our house since January 2004.  The bathroom and toilet are now combined as one and the power shower is wonderful.  The kitchen and dining room combination is a considerable improvement as are all the jobs we have done throughout the house.   We are thinking of adding an extra radiator at the bottom of the stairs .... watch this space.  Although we thought we would have plenty of room to spread out, we have easily filled the house and continue to. Using the second bedroom as a larger study is excellent but still too small!

Basic Facts

My name is Zoe, I am 53, live in Surrey and work locally as a PA. My Dad passed away last year and Mum, just over 3 years ago, they are eternally missed.  Ian and I have moved into his old house, and I hope with some of the changes we are planning, that I will eventually feel comfortable here, but I’m not there yet.

Biographical Information

I moved to Surrey from London at the age of 4 with my parents, and have lived in the area ever since.  After finishing 6th Form College I worked with various companies and gained both knowledge and experience.  I am confident and always ready to take on a challenge.  I love travelling and take as *many* vacations as possible! Australia is still at the top of the agenda.  I have been there 5 times but still have many areas of this wonderful country to visit.  2001 provided the opportunity to cover Broome to Darwin, followed by some diving in the Coral Sea and finally seeing my friends in Sydney and climbing the Harbour Bridge.  2005 gave me the opportunity to introduce Ian to my favourite Country ... now he knows why I am hooked!!

My Hobbies and Interests

Scuba Diving is my passion.  I have been diving since June 1997, beginning as a PADI diver and starting the conversion to BSAC in 1999, most of my dives have taken place since I joined the Aldershot Dolphins BSAC Club.  I am a qualified BSAC Dive Leader and Assistant Club Instructor, with over 550 dives logged.  I have a particular interest in underwater photography and have been successful in a number of the Club Photo competitions!  Some of my photos can be seen on the linked vacation pages.  The 2009 trip was to Sudan with a friend, Jen and last year Ian and I went to Thailand, although it wasn’t a diving holiday we did a couple of dives there. 2011’s diving holiday with Me, Ian, Kenny and Jen in Bali and Sulawesi was absolutely fabulous.  Ian had a bit of a problem, so didn’t dive much. We will go back with himusing a semidry, which should solve the problem.  I

My Reason for Starting to Dive

The first time I went to Australia in 1993, all I could do was snorkel on the Barrier Reef and I made a promise to myself "if I ever come back I will be able to dive".  Well 4 years later I booked my next trip to Australia, that was in 1997, and when I booked the vacation I booked myself on the 4 day Mike Ball Cod Hole Diving Expedition.  I learnt to dive with PADI in the UK in the months preceding my vacation and there is a photo of me with the Potato Cod on the Barrier Reef on the "Australia 1997" page ... what next you might say, well one day, maybe, a GREAT WHITE SHARK ..... from a cage, of course!  However, there was a huge Bull Shark that eyed us up when we were diving the Yongola Wreck.  Luckily it must have already eaten!  Phew!!

do think as I get older, I prefer the warm waters abroad to the cold UK waters!

Open University

I have been studying with the OU since 2002, completing a number of courses towards a degree in Natural Sciences:

1.Openings:breakthrough to maths, science and technology

2.Life in The Oceans: exploring our blue planet

3.Discovering Science

4.Practising Science

5.Biology: Uniformity and Diversity

6.Investigative Biology

7.Biological Psychology: Exploring The Brain

8.Elements of Forensic Science

9.Science in Context

10.Darwin and Evolution

11.Frozen Planet

12.Neighbourhood Nature

It’s a long term commitment as I can only manage one course a year while working full time.  But it is very fulfilling to know that I can still study and pass these courses.  Next year the higher level courses start that have exams and that is not something I look forward to as that never was my strong point!  Just have to work hard and learn some new techniques.

Basic Facts About Ian

My name is Ian, I am 64, live in Farnham and having retired from one profession I went to Southampton University and received a 2:1 BA in Archaeology after which I did a couple of years contract work for the Nautical Archaeology Society.  I have also tried my hand at digging ... it was hard being cramped down a hole ... young person's work I think.  I now work in London but am finally retiring at the end of March.  My kids, Andrew and Louise, live in St. Leonards and Crawley respectively.  Andrew lives with Nikki, Chip and .... the dogs the tortoise, ........, some fish and chickens, and soon their first baby. My first Mum-in-law and my Mum both passed away last year and are sadly missed.

My Hobbies and Interests

Like Zoe, I am a keen Scuba Diver.  I have been diving since I was in the Army as a very young lad, so long ago it's difficult to remember.  I joined Billingshurst divers whilst living in Crawley and Zoe and I dived quite a lot with them in 2003.  I am a member of the Aldershot Dolphins BSAC Club, since living in Farnham.  I am now qualified to BSAC Sport and am an Assistant Instructor, with a few dives to go to Dive Leader (but still working on it).  I take loads of underwater photos and video ... some good, some bad and ........... some absolutely brilliant!.  I too have won a few cups at the Club Photo Competitions.  See the photo album.
